Clothes

Looking at today's picture of "The Weavers" I find myself wondering if I could've survived in a time or if I could endure now in a place where women have to wear so much in the way of clothing. I work hard now with my brain and in past years worked hard physically and I can't imagine either of those happening with all that heavy material needing to be carried around. Whether for warmth, fashion, or propriety the weight of the clothing seems designed to bog one down. No running hither and yon for these gals.
Now I know there's a history that led up to those hats that would sufficiently explain how they came to be a must have accessory, but they seem so odd and affected. Why so high? And if one turned their head to quickly would they pop off?
Perhaps I'm just feeling a bit stifled by fear of unemployment and virtual grenades being tossed in my path. But I'm really curious about their shoes. I'm imagining they are clog like and traversing the stones at their feet was a precarious feat.

They seem mighty proud of those hats, and the one on the right has a nice little bonnet under hers so I'm wondering if they were for special occasions only. Like having this picture made.

Oh, the heaviness. Can't you feel it?

Bonnet and hat! Is that like belt and suspenders? They look like they want to giggle. Yes I'd say they were wearing some of their best finery for this occasion. On my aching back.
